Has it really been a month and 17 days since my last post? Whew! Just whew. Oh! I can even see some cobwebs here. Well, to be fair, I've been really busy with various responsibilities being a member of the International Nurses' Day 2013 Committee. Mostly taking photos for the different activities during the week-long celebration.

But I'm back on the blogging wagon (yay!) and ready (shall I say determined?) to write blogsposts that I could share with my readers. And to start with, allow me to continue my vacation stories. So please bear with me, okay? This might bore you to death. Hahahaha!

From Guijalo Port, it took us about 20 minutes of land travel to our accommodation. It was a pleasant trip since our tour guide was very accommodating. Yet I found it so irritating to have a bumpy ride because of the rough road. Yes, there's smooth road (thanks to Survivor!) but I think it is more of rough road leading to the town of Caramoan.

As I've mentioned in my previous post, we wanted to stay at Gota Village Resort (by the way, who wouldn't want to?) but due to budget issues, we opted to stay at Istaran Budget Hotel. No regrets. Why? This economy hotel offers various amenities just like other budget hotels in town. The only difference is the absence of indoor or outdoor pool. For budget vacationers like us, it was fine; but if you're longing for a luxurious Caramoan vacation, you better start checking the Gota Village Resort or Tugawe Cove Resort.

Here are some of the photos of the budget hotel. These are straight out of the camera shots(DSLR and mobile) so don't expect to see nice photos (okay, okay I must admit that I am too lazy to do even minor editing argh! Not to mention that I was not in the mood for clicking before or after the island hopping----yeah right! excuses, excuses!). You can click the photos to enlarge.

this is how it looks like from outside

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; The clock says it's 02:00 AM. I've counted the sheep to fall asleep but to no avail. This insomnia thing is really irritating me. Shall I blame it to my duty requests? Ugh! Yeah right! I am on a perennial night shift and when it's time for my day off, I'm having difficulty falling asleep. Or shall I blame it to my dry cough and sore throat? I am on day 4 of Augmentin. Though I feel better compared to the past few days, this sore throat is really painful. I'm tired of coughing and counting the sheep. I don't want to spend the rest of the night doing nothing. Ok, let me see what I can write for today. Oh! Let me continue the story about our Caramoan adventure (*sips lukewarm tea*).

Caramoan has many beautiful off-shore islands scattered across its vast water. Known internationally as the setting of several foreign Survivor TV series like Survivor Italy, Bulgaria, Israel, France, Serbia, Sweden and recently, the USA. No wonder that it has risen to one of the hot tourist destinations in the Philippines. I came to know about this tropical paradise not only because of the Survivor TV series, but because of the photos posted in Facebook by my Auntie Adore, a long-time resident of Caramoan. Since then, I've been dreaming of spending my holiday enjoying the sand, sea and beautiful sceneries of Caramoan. Hurray! At last another one ticked off my wishlist!

A few weeks before our holiday, I reminded my hubby about our plans. Though we had a limited budget, I still insisted on a 3D/2N adventure. Initially, we were planning to go to Bohol on our first week and then to Caramoan on our last week. We had to change our plans upon arrival in the Philippines when we've learned that Joel had to attend his final week in the school.

At the start of our week 2 in the Philippines, I phoned Darius Mirasol of Northlink Events and Travel Services. We paid a visit at their office in Metropark Village in Daet, Camarines Norte to book for a 3D/2N package for 7 pax. We wanted to stay at Gota Village Resort but eventually chose Istaran Budget Hotel due to budget constraint (I will give the details of Northlink Event and Travel Services and Istaran Budget Hotel at the end of this post).

Everybody was excited when we got the booking. We started packing our beach stuff and there was one day that we've spent the whole time buying for our "anik-anik" (you know, girl thing :)).....can't live without it). We were a bit sad because my mother declined our invitation for some reasons. I couldn't change our booking and we really had to go since I have already paid the 50% of the total travel cost.

After few days from the time we booked our travel, the day has finally arrived :)). Allow me to share our travel time from Daet to Guiajalo Port with our photos.

We had to leave Daet at 01:00 AM going Sabang Port, thus those haggard looks. I'm back! How are you doing? I hope everybody is doing well.

It's good to be back but I feel a bit sad at the same time because I had to leave my kids again. I'll be seeing them again after 5 months. Anyway, I'll just keep myself busy to ward off this homesickness. To start with, I would like to share these random vacation shots taken at Caramoan Peninsula, Camarines Sur, Philippines. If you are familiar with Survivor, a reality television show, then I think you have an idea about the place. I've been there with my family and we did enjoy the sand, sea and beauty of nature. Indeed, it's more fun in the Philippines! Another one checked in my wishlist. :)

I'll be posting my vacation stories in a series, so keep on visiting this page. Having said that, I assume you all know that I'm loving the weather these days.

For the past few weeks, especially when the fog started to appear and enveloped the city, I started taking photos whenever I get the chance. There was a time, around the last week of January, when I had a flu because I took photos as early as 05:30 AM without wearing any cardigan or jacket to keep me warm. How stupid of me to do that. Yeah right! Ahhh! The crazy things I do for the love of photography and photoblogging. :)) Even if I don't have my DSLR camera with me, I make sure that my ever reliable mobile camera does the job. Though we don't normally celebrate it with lavish food or a party (we can't afford any of the two anyway), we always make sure that we eat out or cook something special. This year, my brother's birthday fell on a weekday here in the UAE (Sunday as the start of the week, with Friday and Saturday as weekends). Gab is working in Sharjah from Sunday to Thursday. His current workplace and accommodation is almost 3 hours drive from Al Ain City. By public transportation, it will take him around 3.5 hours of travel time. Aside from that reason, his birthday fell on the last few days before the salary day. Those were the crucial days where in few bucks were kept in our wallets.

To make the story short (the excuses :)),I reckon), we celebrated it last night at Applebee's -Al Ain Mall. Since we were all craving for steak, we agreed to dine in at Applebee's. It was my brother's first time while I and my sis-in-law were both second timers. After the much awaited haircut at the salon, off we went to Al Ain Mall. Since I don't want to write further about my <strike>excuses</strike> reasons, let alone these photos do the talking on how much we enjoyed our dinner at the said restaurant. We had sizzling mushroom steak with mashed potato, rib eye steak with shrimps, and double-glazed beef back ribs.

a photo collage made easy with mosaic maker application from Big Huge Labs.

Belated happy 30th something (*coughs) birthday Gab!

On another note, allow me share these few sentences for my resto review.

1. SERVICE

The service is outstanding. As soon as we walked into the restaurant, one of the crew members greeted us with warm and friendly smile. She asked me how many people want to be seated and walked us to the vacant table, handed the menu, and told us that there's somebody assigned to take our orders. Since yesterday was the beginning of the weekend, it was expected to see lots of customers. Though it took around 8 minutes before a server came and took our orders, I appreciate her greeting us with friendly smile after she introduced herself. We managed to ask one of the crew members to take few photos for us. Oh! She was so sweet! She said yes without any hesitation even if she's busy.

2. PLACE and AMBIANCE

Well lit. I simply loved their colorful lamps.

I liked the combination of earth, primary and pastel colors on their walls, ceiling, chairs and tables, counter, and floor.

I liked the framed and mounted photos of Al Ain on the wall.

3. FOOD and PRICE

Delectable and the wait for food was okay---I mean 15 to 20 minutes waiting time was acceptable since it was a weekend.

The steak were cooked exactly the way we wanted it to be---well done, though slightly greasy.

A bit pricey but it was okay (since we don't eat there often). Looking at the portions, one order of double-glazed beef back ribs is good enough for 3 pax. AED 296 for 3 pax...hmmmmm, not bad.

About half way through our meal, we asked for a refill on our iced tea and we had it after 5 minutes.

Over-all rate: 4 out of 5 stars.

There you go! It's time to hit the sack. I have household chores waiting for me when I get up at 09:00 AM (Oh my G! This insomnia thing is really killing me). Opppppsss, today is February 2, it's my kuya Dan's birthday (kuya is the Tagalog word for elder brother)! Kuya Dan is currently living in London with his family and working as a Charge Nurse in one of NHS Trust hospitals in UK. Happy, happy birthday kuya Dan! Have a blast!

By the way, we walked around the Stars Court of Al Ain Mall and took several photos after we had our dinner. We wanted to get rid some baby fats (ehermmm). :)) Lol!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone! I keep on digging my old files and photo archives. Perhaps I should start doing something else because if I will continue with what I am doing, I guess I'll go crazy. Anyway, let me share these photos for today's post. Don't mind me if I bawl my eyes out. :) Tissue please!

It is undeniable that Jebel Hafeet is one of the famous tourist destinations here in the United Arab Emirates. Being the second highest mountain in the UAE, it offers a scenic view of Al Ain from it's peak. No wonder that whenever we have friends or families visiting the UAE for the first time, we always make sure that it is included in their itinerary. I've been living here in Al Ain for nearly 8 years now and I couldn't remember how many times I brought my family up in the mountain to enjoy the wonder of nature. I could even hear my stomach growling. I haven't eaten any proper meal since yesterday :(((. You see, I am fine with chips, breads and noodles. I really don't feel the need to eat something heavy (who would want to eat anyway when you're alone ?) not until I saw these images in my computer. All of the sudden, this bout of homesickness just sink in.....the feeling of wanting to be home and eat these type of food. I am not a masochist trying to hurt myself while looking at these photos, but I ended up creating a new file and transferring all the food photos that I've got over the past two years.

I couldn't bear the aching stomach anymore....the borborygmic sound is increasing. Grrrrr! I have to leave this computer and look for something to eat. I'm leaving you with these images to enjoy and imagine how scrumptious they are. What I love about this type of photography is the reflections created by the lights. Here are some of the images taken last Sunday when I watched the Water, Fire and Light Show at Downtown Dubai.

The Burj Lake with Souq Al Bahar and The Address

The Address hotel

Here are some tips when shooting this type of photography. I came to know these tips with my endless trial and error stuff. Well, I can always commit several mistakes but I can always learn. Anyway, learning is an endless process. :) Oh! One day my camera's shutter life will come to an end because I can take 50 to 100 shots just for one subject. :)) lol!

1. Use your tripod. Always mount your camera on a tripod and make sure the base is steady to prevent camera shake.

2. Turn off the optical stabilizer of your lens (VR/IS) to prevent the 'shake return'.

3. Use your remote shutter release cable. This will prevent you from pressing and holding your camera. Or use the camera's timer if you don't own one.

4. Shoot in manual mode and choose a small aperture: f/14 and above. Ideally, exposure should be longer, shoot anywhere between 1-30 seconds (shutter set on bulb).

5. Turn that white balance from auto to daylight to create warmer colors.
6. Keep the ISO to 100 and increase depending on the distance of your subject.

These are merely suggestions but don't take them seriously since I am just a plain photoblogger. :)

Do you find this post useful? Few minutes before the fireworks display at the Burj Khalifa, I saw a thick layer of clouds hovering at the tower. Thought it was a nice background, I pressed the shutter :) Here are some of the images that I have taken few minutes before the fireworks display. You can visit the Al Ain City Daily Photo FB page for more.

On another note, I wonder how many photographers were frustrated last night because of the thick smoke from the fireworks preventing them from capturing decent images. I believe I was one of them but still thankful for having few decent images to share. Yes, the show was specular especially the light, water and fire dance but from a photoblogger's standpoint, the fireworks display was surprisingly difficult to capture. Here's the image that I have captured during the first ten seconds of the fireworks display. I was too damn busy that I forgot my blogoversary. Shame!! At this very moment, I don't have a cake to slice or a glass of wine to celebrate my photoblog's 3rd anniversary, but I have these photos to share with you my dear followers. These images were taken sometime in October during my short holiday in the Philippines. These are weeds that I've seen at one of the herbaceous and shady nook of our clubhouse. Hope you like these photos.

On another note, I can say that this year has been good to Al Ain City Daily Photo. This was taken at Al Jahili Fort last December 3, 2011 on the celebration of 40th UAE National Day. Being a person who knows squat about video editing and converting a HD video to flv format, it took me ages to work on it with the help of my brother. Not to mention that I lost the file and was able to retrieve it a few days ago.

At the same time, please excuse us for the background voices that you'll hear at the beginning of the video. Hubby and I were talking in our native tongue...discussing about the possible ways to share it with you. This 7-minute video in flv format shows great images that portrays the country's development. I love the background music too even if I didn't understand any of the lyrics. :))

By the way, the show was organized by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. If you'd like to see the photos that I have taken on the said show, please click here. Please be informed that this video can also be viewed at my youtube channel, you can share it with your friends if you'd like to.
